About the LEAH Project:
The LEAH Project’s mission is to promote the power of youth, especially BIPOC youth, to diversify the STEM fields. Through paid STEM internships, dynamic college and career readiness programming, and meaningful youth leadership opportunities, LEAH cultivates the confidence of youth and equips them with the skills and connections they need to thrive.
About our Youth Leaders:
This summer, LEAH recruited 44 rising juniors and seniors from the Greater Boston Area with an interest in biology and/or data science. These youth participated in one of two paid, 30-hour per week internship experiences at the Biogen Community Lab or MIT for five weeks. The internships included hands-on training in biology wet lab skills and data science/analysis concepts. Youth Leaders also participated in weekly sessions on college readiness, reading scientific articles, public speaking and other topics.
LEAH works primarily with youth of color, especially Black and Latinx youth, youth from lower-income neighborhoods, and first-generation college youth.
About the Mentoring Position:
We are looking for STEM professionals to mentor youth in their pursuit of STEM studies and careers. We are currently looking for each mentor to commit to mentoring one or two Youth Leaders for the 2024-2025 school year. Mentors can have a background in any STEM-related field.
